This small Shiboridashi was made by a Banko-yaki kyusu craftsman with 40 years of experience in this field. The part used for pouring tea has a matte finish to make it easy to hold, and the lid is engraved with a banded floral pattern. Banko-yaki is a traditional craft made in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. Banko-yaki teapots are made of iron-rich red clay, which adsorbs the astringent components of tea and removes the astringency to a moderate degree, making it possible to brew delicious tea. The surface of the Shiboridashi changes to a glossy finish as it is used, so if you use it for a long time, you can also enjoy the aging process of Banko-yaki. Purple clay(Shidei) kyusu and red clay(Syudei) kyusu are made from the same iron-rich clay, but they are fired in different ways. In the case of Purple clay, the firing process is called "reduction firing," in which oxygen is removed from the inside of the kiln to burn the iron, resulting in a purple-brown color. red clay kyusu is fired by oxidizing firing, in which sufficient oxygen is supplied to the kiln for complete firing, and the iron in the kyusu is sufficiently oxygenated to produce a reddish-brown color. When the tea leaves open up, it is easy to slowly pour every last drop into the cup. Gyokko(玉光) is a three-generation potter who makes Tokoname kyusu by hand. Tokonameyaki refers to pottery made in the Tokoname region of Aichi Prefecture. It is a traditional craft born at the end of the Heian period (794-1185). It is considered one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is known as a pottery that has been produced for a long time since the Middle Ages. This is a set of tea ware for Gyokuro (high-grade green tea) and Sencha (middle-grade green tea) . Hagi-yaki is pottery produced in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is said that Hagi-yaki originated in the Edo period (1603-1867), more than 400 years ago, when it was opened as the official kiln of the Mori family. Hagi-yaki is characterized by its unique soft texture made of rough, less-fired clay. The rougher the clay, the more permeable, water-retentive, and heat-retentive it is, and the more it is used, the more the color of the ware gradually changes, giving it an indescribable wabi-like flavor. This change is called "Hagi's seven transformations," and is a characteristic appeal of Hagi-yaki. The more Hagi ware is used, the more flavorful it becomes. Many of the pieces are rustic, with little or no painting or other decoration. The unique texture is created by the combination of clay, glaze application, brush marks, and the coincidence created by the firing flame. This is a shiboridashi (絞り出し) type teapot with a sophisticated design of the Tobikanna pattern with a ceramic tea strainer on the back of the lid. It is handmade by craftsmen in Tokoname. The wide bore of the body allows tea leaves to be disposed of without getting stuck, and it is easy to wash and clean. The Shiboridashi teapot is used for making gyokuro and sencha teas at low temperatures. The teapot has a groove carved into the spout that allows tea to be poured down to the last drop (golden drop), which opens the tea leaves and brings out its flavor and aroma. This tea set is in the traditional Arita-yaki Kakiemon style, with flowers and grasses painted on white porcelain. Arita-yaki refers to porcelain made in and around the town of Arita in Saga Prefecture. It is said to be the oldest porcelain in Japan, with its history dating back to the 17th century. A kyusu without a handle is called a hohin or hobin. It is used for gyokuro and fine sencha teas brewed at about 60°C (140°F) rather than at high temperatures. The best thing about a ho hin is that it is extremely compact. The absence of a handle means that it takes up little space for storage. The spout extends all the way to the bottom of the body, which is designed to allow tea to be poured all the way to the end. The top of the body is wide, making it very easy to remove the tea leaves after enjoying the tea. Arita-yaki is porcelain, which is made by forming porcelain clay from a stone called "toseki," glazing it, and firing it at a high temperature of 1,300°C for more than 17 hours. Porcelain is light, hard, and durable, and is characterized by its beautiful white color, which was once praised as "white gold" by European aristocrats. The smooth surface of the porcelain is suitable for painting patterns on, so colorfully painted porcelain is often seen, giving it a prestigious and elegant appearance. This is a set of tea ware for Gyokuro (high-grade green tea) and Sencha (middle-grade green tea) . The white glaze brush strokes, painted by the skilled hands of the artisans, give each piece a sense of dynamism. Shigaraki-yaki ware is a stoneware produced mainly in Shigaraki, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, and is an intermediate type of ware between ceramics and porcelain. Shigaraki ware is characterized by the color and texture created by the gradation of flames, and has been loved for a long time for its simplicity and "wabi-sabi" taste. In the late Muromachi period (1333-1573), with the popularity of wabi-cha (tea ceremony), Shigaraki ware became popular among tea masters and was used as tea utensils. Due to the high firing rate in the traditional climbing kiln, the surface is unglazed with a reddish-brown burnished finish that allows you to enjoy the fire color, and it is comfortable in your hand along with the texture of the Shigaraki clay. Fired at a high temperature, the quartz mixed with the clay melts out and blows up, creating the scenery known as "Ishi-haze" or "Arare". As it is made of unglazed pottery, when you first start using it, pour hot water into it with tea leaves and leave it overnight. As you use it day after day, the color of the tea will gradually seep in, giving it a very quaint appearance.
