This small Shiboridashi was made by a Banko-yaki kyusu craftsman with 40 years of experience in this field. The part used for pouring tea has a matte finish to make it easy to hold, and the lid is engraved with a banded floral pattern.

Banko-yaki is a traditional craft made in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. Banko-yaki teapots are made of iron-rich red clay, which adsorbs the astringent components of tea and removes the astringency to a moderate degree, making it possible to brew delicious tea.
The surface of the Shiboridashi changes to a glossy finish as it is used, so if you use it for a long time, you can also enjoy the aging process of Banko-yaki.

Purple clay(Shidei) kyusu and red clay(Syudei) kyusu are made from the same iron-rich clay, but they are fired in different ways. In the case of Purple clay, the firing process is called "reduction firing," in which oxygen is removed from the inside of the kiln to burn the iron, resulting in a purple-brown color. red clay kyusu is fired by oxidizing firing, in which sufficient oxygen is supplied to the kiln for complete firing, and the iron in the kyusu is sufficiently oxygenated to produce a reddish-brown color.
