This kyusu is made by Banko-yaki, a traditional craft of Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture.
The design with the openworked brim (the part of the kyusu with the ornately carved cherry blossom petals at the top) is unique and very attractive.
The coloring of the kiln change gives it an indescribable sense of calmness and elegance.
The small size of this kyusu makes it ideal for brewing tea for one person or for enjoying a premium gyokuro.
With a history of over 300 years, Banko-yaki has built up a distinctive character over the years.
The first characteristic of Banko-yaki is that it is classified as semi-porcelain.
One of the main characteristics of semi-porcelain Banko-yaki is that it is extremely hard, strong, and water-resistant.
The more it is used, the more luster it develops.
In addition, Banko-yaki does not use glaze.
In other words, Banko-yaki is characterized by its use of the colors of the materials themselves.
The color of Banko-yaki is purple (azuki) and is sometimes referred to as shidoro-yaki (purple clay ware).
