This is a set of tea ware for Gyokuro (high-grade green tea) and Sencha (middle-grade green tea).
Nerikomi is a traditional Tokoname process in which layers of clay of different colors are ground on a potter's wheel to create a natural marbled pattern.
Tokonameyaki refers to pottery made in the Tokoname region of Aichi Prefecture. It is a traditional craft born at the end of the Heian period (794-1185). It is considered one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is known as a pottery that has been produced for a long time since the Middle Ages.
Tokoname ware is characterized by the use of iron-rich ceramic clay produced in the Chita Peninsula. It is said that tea brewed in a Tokonameyaki teapot is very mellow and delicious.
This is because the tannins in the tea react with the iron oxide, and the astringency and bitterness of the tea are moderately removed.
